Chesham Women 5 Hammersmith & Fulham 5
It was left to Chesham’s women’s side to bring some pride to the Stags' weekend performances, salvaging a hard well-earned five-all draw, against a robust and large Hammersmith and Fulham RFC side.
In cold, wet and windy conditions this was never going to be an open running game. In the opening few minutes the Hammersmith’s speedy full back took full advantage of a slack Chesham defence and ran in an unconverted try. Chesham got their act together and there was plenty enterprising play from Chesham forwards and backs. However, despite constant pressure on the visitors' try line Chesham could not get over the whitewash.
Chesham enjoyed most of the possession in the second half but failed to finish a number of promising moves. In the nail biting closing minutes of the game Chesham finally got an equalising try, but with the last kick of the game the conversion dropped short.
An exciting game to watch ending in a satisfying and well-earned draw and a stalwart performance from Chesham’s evergreen Claire Moore who this week played tight head prop.

Apologies for the fact that the Results page is a couple of weeks out of date. A technical glitch means that the page currently can't be accessed for updating purposes - isn't technology a wonderful thing!
The news from the weekend is that the 1st XV lost a closely contested match 13-15 against local rivals Amersham and Chiltern III.
The 2nd XV drew 5-5 away to Old Millhillians whilst on Sunday the Women's XV also drew 5-5 away to Hammersmith & Fulham.
Hopefully match reports for all teams will be appearing shortly.

Chesham Women 17 Woodbridge Women 26
A depleted Chesham Women's XV took on their Woodbridge counterparts at home in blustery conditions at Chesham Park on Sunday.
Despite the conditions and the fact that Chesham started with only 14 players, many of whom were playing out of position, the first half was full of good running rugby from the home team who kept the ball in hand and used the wind cleverly.
Dee Turner, Nina Nachreiner and Danielle Flynnall crossed for tries, Chesham led 17-3 at the break and things were looking good.
Sadly it was not to last. Early in the 2nd half Chesham somewhat harshly had a player sin binned for an alleged deliberate knock on, before Chesham no 10 Dee Turner was forced to lave the field with an ankle injury, reducing Chesham to 12 players. Woodbridge's big big forwards took control of the scrums and rucks and with good posession the Woodbridge backs took full advantage of the gale force winds and ran in 4 tries.

Chesham 57 Portsmouth 0
After last week's disappointment the Chesham Women's team got back to winning ways with a thumping 57-0 win at home against Portsmouth Valkyries on Sunday.
Chesham started as they had finished the last game, Deanna Turner blasting through her opposite number for the first of her three tries, after well controlled ball from the forwards. Kerry Fitzpatrick converted and then followed up with a converted try of her own. The team went from strength to strength working as a unit - with forwards producing great ball for the backs and the backs' rush defence producing turnover ball for the forwards to move on to.
The game's best try saw a lineout ball off the top from Kirsty Haig to Kerry Fitzpatrick whose strong pass found Deanna Turner with Danielle Flynn running a fantastic cutback to break the defence and feed Tina Mash for her first of two tries. There was also a quick break and sprint try for Nina Nachreiner to savour and Danielle Flynn went from supplier to scorer after constant pressure led to another try.
In the last five minutes Chesham's defence held firm to deny Portsmouth the consolation try they were after.
Great performance from the Women's team who now look forward to taking on Ealing on 4th October.

Lauren Cattell from Chesham Rugby Club has been selected by the Rugby Football Union for Women (RFUW) to attend the Under 18 Talent Development Group (TDG) for the 2009/2010 season. At 15 years of age Lauren is the youngest player of the 34 selected in this year’s group.
The TDG programme is designed to provide the very best U18 players with individualised, planned and progressive player development programmes. The group provides a step-up from county and regional rugby and aims to raise the standard of England representative players and squads for future years.
Tom Stokes, the RFUW’s Player Development Manager, said: “The standard of the players is improving year on year and this year’s selection was very tough.”
Jane Morris, Chesham RUFC Mini and Junior Chairwoman, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Lauren and is testament to the years of dedication she has shown to rugby and Chesham Rugby Club. Previous players from the TDG programme have gone on to represent England - this is an exciting prospect for Lauren and we wish her every success”.

Wimbledon 10 Chesham 5
The Chesham Women's team took on Wimbledon away on Sunday in the first RFUW NC South East 1 fixture of the season and unfortunately went down 10-5.
After starting strongly Chesham allowed Wimbledon to build in confidence and poor decision making allowed Wimbledon into the twenty-two where, after a couple of penalties, they scored a push over try.
The rest of the half was hard fought with good rugby on both sides and impressive starts for Nina Nachier and Shona Birkby, Wimbledon scored again in the second half to take a 10-0 lead but to their credit Chesham rallied and laid siege to Wimbledon twenty- two. After being held just short on at least five occasions Chesham pressure eventually led to deserved debut try for Tina Mash.
Unfortunately time ran out for Chesham as they pushed for the win and they had to settle for a losing bonus point and the thought of what could have been. Hopefully the lessons learned will be taken into the home game against Portsmouth next week.

With posters and leaflets being distributed around Chesham, the Club's recruitment campaign has got off to a great start, with several new players turning out regularly at training and further new recruits anticipated when our mini and youth players return to action on Sunday 6th September.
However WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!
How? Simples - by turning up at training on Tuesdays and Thursdays and supporting the efforts of Gary, Colin and Jobby who give up their time for your benefit.
Numbers have been disappointing - especially on Thursdays - and the lack of numbers hardly creates a good impression of the Club for new recruits.
So please help - recruits are hard find and easy to lose - let's show them Chesham Rugby Club at its best.
