Chesham 13 Beaconsfield 2nds 10
An exciting game where the result was in the balance right up to the final whistle.
Chesham fielded a side with four changes from last week through injuries and unavailability. From the kick off the Stags camped in the Beaconsfield twenty two but, despite dominating the play for the first 15 minutes, the Stags were unable to turn the pressure into points and Beaconsfield weathered the storm.
Mid-way through the first half, however, Chesham skipper Steve Morris had a great run. Starting from well inside his own half he managed to avoid four tackles to score under the posts, leaving an easy conversion for Ross Leek.
Chesham made the mistake of relaxing and Beaconsfield immediately hit back with an equally impressive try which was converted. Chesham got their act together and following a number of Beaconsfield infringements the ref lost patience and awarded the Stags a penalty. Leek converted and the Stags took the lead.
The second half was a nail biter. Chesham had plenty possession with their forwards dominating the scrums and loose play. Beaconsfield backs were living off scraps but were always dangerous when they had possession and silly infringements from the Stags saw Beaconsfield level the score from a penalty.
The final period saw Chesham regroup with forwards and backs playing simple effective rugby. Beaconsfield were under pressure and Chesham were awarded a penalty with Leek taking the home side in to six point lead.
To their credit Beaconsfield bounced back. Chesham were under pressure and were penalised. Beaconsfield took the three points. Chesham held out for the last five minute and earned hard fought three point win.
Chesham Man of the match was lock Ben Harry who is only in his second season playing rugby, closely challenged by Toby Adams in the front row who stepped up from the club 2nd XV.
