New Webmaster

After a thorough and rigorous selection procedure (Morris asked me, I said yes) I am very pleased to accept the position of Club Webmaster.

Whilst I am obviously getting carried away with my own self-importance, in fact my role will largely involve posting YOUR content on this blog so its success will very much depend on the participation of club members. Please therefore send all news, announcements, match reports, comments, videos and photos to me at barry.french3@btopenworld.com.

Please note, if you register with www.typepad.com, you can also leave comments on any post on this blog (keep them clean!)

Here's to a successful 2009-2010 and to making this site an invaluable resource for Chesham Rugby Club.

How to post your news

The Chesham Rugby Club Blog allows us all to participate and find out about what is happening at Chesham Rugby Club and in our area. If it is to do with Rugby, going on in Chesham, then you'll find it here on the Blog site!

How can you join in?
Here are a few examples of how you can get your Rugby News on the Chesham Blog Site :-

Match Reports. Provide us with the Date of the Match, the Teams involved. Then let us know the significance of the match, clash at the top, relegation battle, or maybe it is a cup game. Tell us the end result and any titanic moments within the match. Give us your man (women) of the match recommendation and if you have any pictures or video then get this to us as well. Just email to barry.french3@btopenworld.
 
News and Announcements. Let us know of any details that could be useful to Rugby enthusiasts in Chesham. This could be about the monthly meetings, coaching events or RFU announcements, developments in Rugby within schools or Team selection for the club. Email to barry.french3@btopenworld.com.

Sending Pictures. Please send us pictures with details of what the picture is all about. We will get it posted with your short description straight up onto the Blog. When sending pictures please ensure they are .jpg format and reduce them to no more than 200k bytes per picture. Email to barry.french3@btopenworld.com.

Sending Videos. Video files tend to be quite large. The best way to email us a video if the file is under 100mb is to use the free webservice http://www.mailbigfile.com. Just upload the Video there, then email to barry.french3@btopenworld.com and we'll get the Video sorted for you. Make sure you tell us who is in the video and any important points about what is going on. If it is a match then include the Teams playing, the end result, the game(s) on the video and the players names who are playing.

If you have a YouTube account already then you can host the video within YouTube and then just send us the embed code and we will use that to link to the Video without us needing to manage large video files. Don't forget to forward all the important match information as well though! or details of what is going on in the Video!

NEW RECRUITING CAMPAIGN

HELP IS NEEDED FROM ALL MEMBERS
 
We are off and running on our exciting new member recruiting campaign.

The first events " Taster Sessions" for new women members are being held at the club on Sat the 27th June and Sat 4th July at 12.00noon.

• The  girls have completed their first Pub Crawl in Berkhampstead with Amersham and Hemel Crawls planned.
• The Men are still at the planning stage but keep watching for events in July and August.
• Minis and Juniors have their new recruiting material printed and will kick off their campaign after the school holidays.
• Posters and mail drops will be appearing round Chesham.
• Regular updates will be posted on the club web blog
  
  
  
  

Each club section has a simple recruiting target.

• The women want to increase the squad size to at least 25 players
• The men hope to field before the end of the season three mens xv's plus our Vets xv
• The Minis and Youth are recruiting in each age group with a focus on the over 10's

Old Friends Reunited

OLD FRIENDS REUNITED

Have you noticed the recent Silver sponsor "Pubs near the Tube" and "Pubs near the Station".

There is an interesting story behind these unique sites. They are the hobby of Brian "Brain" Kilby a Chesham resident with an encyclopedic knowledge of Trains and Pubs. Don't get into an arguement with him about Real Ale, Pubs or trains. You won't catch him out.  Brian has visited all the pubs and Stations featured on the websites.

Brian who was, and still is, friendly with Johny Noakes and Golly Garwood and some of the other club founder members used to meet up in the Red Lion and the Queens Head. Over a few pints Brian became aware that as a start up club we needed help. He offered to purchase a medical kit for our first games at Marston Field.  In that moment of generosity he became our first non member sponsor.

Fast forward 28 years, and I met Brian in Chesham High Street. "How's the club doing said Brian" "Fine" was the response . We have a thriving Youth Section and are about to launch a recruiting drive for new Men and women Players.

"How can I help" said Brian.  Quick as a flash he had the response, " We could do with a new Medical Kit for next season" " It will be my pleasure" our first sponsor said.

Job Vacancy

Webmaster wanted.

The club is looking for a member or supporter who is interested in managing the content of the club blogsite and website.

Idealy the person should have experience of html/typepad/website building. Training will be given.

This is an important role in the club as the new blog and website is to be the prinicple message of communicating all playing and social news. It also provides a link to the club facebook and youtube accounts.

New Silver Sponsor

Imagehaus has joined the club's growing list of Silver sponsors. Imagehaus are a specialist printer of high quality promotional material. Headed up by Alan Smythson who is our sole remaining founder player ( joined 1982) and who is regularly pulling on his boots for the Stags Vets XV. Lost and Found

Chesham Stags 1st XV Photo Season 2008-2009

The club tradition is to take team photos on the last league game of the season. This year we could not remember who took it. It turned out that the skipper Danny Rose was the culprit. Now all we need to do is find out who has the 2nd XV and womens XV photos.

Lions South Africa Tour

A reminder that the club is open for all the Lions games. All happy members and visitors welcome. The club now operates a strict "No Moaning" policy which is supervised by our always happy bar management.

First Touch Rugby Session 2009

In-touch season underway.

This summers touch league has now commenced. Eight teams are participating and this includes a Barbarian side.

If you want a game, and are not on a team, then the Barbarians are your side

Turn up at 7:15pm, Tuesday nights at Chesham Park Community College and have some fun!

Touch is played in mixed teams, men and women, and we also have some of our youth and mini players regularly playing.
